Thermal Springs Polychnitou & Thermal Springs Lisvoriou, “Agios Ioannis”

Polichnitos Thermal Springs are listed as the hottest mineral springs in Europe (60 - 90 degrees). The baths are 60 meters above the sea, close to the banks of the Almyropotamus river. The surrounding area looks like a different planet, whereby rivers boil and deposit residues of various colours and formations.

There are five mineral springs but only three are used. In the winter time you can see the springs from a distance due to the hot vapours rising from them. The bath house with the original pools as built during the Turkish Occupation are retained and used (one for males, one for females). Although the water at the springs is boiling and too hot to touch, the temperature of the water in the pools is kept quite comfortable.

The rest of the facilities have been upgraded and improved for showering and changing. The baths are run by Cosnia and is open daily but hours vary. Early in the season its open in the mornings and by appointment. As the season progresses it is open mornings and afternoons. Currently charges for the use of the facilities are 3 € per person, per session, but these charges are under review.

Thermal Springs Lisvoriou, “Agios Ioannis” are located near the village of Lisvori (near Polichnitos) at a distance of 3 km.

The hot spring facilities are comprised of two separate buildings, only one of which is maintained and 9 fully furnished and equipped rooms. There is a public domed semi circular bathing pool, built in the same architectural style as the other thermal springs on Lesvos, with separate areas for steam baths

The chemical composition is similar to the Thermal Springs Polychnitou, although the temperature is only 69o C. It’s worth noting that both springs are the hottest in Europe.
